British Triathlon
Supporting staff to enhance their knowledge and confidence in executing community development outcomes relating to physical activity and health.
British Triathlon commissioned Move Consulting to deliver a series of training sessions to their staff to enhance their knowledge and confidence when engaging with health organisations.
OUR APPROACH
We are seeing more organisations taking an interest in seeking ways to make connections and work more collaboratively with health and social care organisations. From engaging with a local health and social care charity, through to collaborating with Integrated Care Systems, this can be a confusing world for partners at both ends. The initial first steps to developing any relationship is to ensure there is a common understanding of the common challenges, attributes and potential synergies.
At Move we often start projects with the end in mind. Taking this strategic approach helps everyone to understand what success can look like and highlights what steps may be required to achieve it. A fundamental requirement of being able to do this is to listen and hear what is being asked for.
The launch of the Big Active Strategy in 2021 marked a shift in the focus of British Triathlon, embracing a drive to develop the foundations for long term, community-based development for the governing body. Community-led activities are at the heart of the Big Active strategy, with Triathlon England working directly with local stakeholders, agencies and community organisations and leaders, including health.
Vicki Putson, National Development Manager at British Triathlon said,
“Our work to engage with a more diverse range of partners has helped us to learn a great deal; not only about the needs of local communities, but also areas to help enhance our own capabilities and confidence, particularly to engage in conversations relating to physical activity and health.
We knew that this was an area we needed to further develop our knowledge and skills, not only to raise the confidence of our staff. Speaking with the team at Move Consulting it was obvious that their specialist understanding of physical activity and health, coupled with their experience of working within a governing body setting, positioned them perfectly to support us to understand the nuances in the conversation on health.”
WHAT WE DID
Working with British Triathlon to understand their needs and provide added value for their staff, Move Consulting created a bespoke training offer based on their one day, Physical Activity and Health training programme, which covers;
1: Uncovering the importance of physical activity for health.
2: Raising awareness of national and regional health stakeholders.
3: Increasing awareness of the factors impacting on our health.
4: Identifying the enablers for behaviour change.
5: Highlighting key approaches to engage with new organisations.
Director at Move Consulting, Craig Blain said,
“We were delighted to be asked by British Triathlon to support them with the training. Developing the programme was a real pleasure, it is great to see the governing body invest in developing their knowledge and understanding of this area. We wanted to ensure that we went beyond simply giving information and ensured that the design and delivery of the training challenges people to reflect on their practice, and review the way in which they approached building new relationships with stakeholders.“
The programme of learning consists of a one-day, face-to-face, intensive training day with two supplementary online sessions, that provide the opportunity for those who attend the initial training day to apply their learning and re-connect with peers in a learning environment to share their experiences and further refine their approach.
WHAT THIS MEANT FOR OUR CLIENT
“This is one of the best training sessions I have attended in recent years. Thanks to Move Consulting for putting together such an engaging and informative session. I can’t wait to put some of the processes they have shared into practice and to share back my learning in future sessions.”
Michelle Scott, Regional Manager at British Triathlon
