Move Consulting deliver stand-out learning campaign for EMD UK aimed at exercise and dance instructors, connecting group exercise and health.
Move Consulting were approached by the governing body for group exercise, EMD UK, to help instructors to increase their knowledge and confidence in forging new connections with health organisations, helping to highlight the potential that their role has in promoting physical activity as part of the health solution.
“In light of a recent survey of our membership, we identified that people wanted to increase their confidence in forging new connections with health and to increase their understanding of emerging topics like social prescribing. Move Consulting stood out to us as the perfect partner to develop a package of support to meet the needs of our members. From the very beginning it was obvious that they held an in-depth understanding of the challenges and aspirations faced by both sides and would be able to guide us to uncover some practical solutions to support our members.”

OUR APPROACH
The team at Move Consulting called on both their expert understanding and strong network of contacts across the health and physical activity sectors, to develop and curate a learning campaign for the governing body. Working with EMD UK, the team further explored the needs identified by the governing body, supporting them to tailor key learning outcomes that would help to shape a blended learning journey for their members, increasing their knowledge, awareness and confidence in these areas.
“With the emergence of initiatives such as Social Prescribing, and the challenges created by the COVID pandemic, there has never been a greater need for community providers to connect with health organisations to support the health of the population. In developing the campaign, we wanted to empower and guide instructors to have the knowledge they needed to understand health and physical activity priorities and engage with local health systems.”

WHAT WE DID
Supporting behaviour change is at the heart of all the solutions we design at Move Consulting. The campaign package we provided to EMD UK offered a range of information and assets which would touch on supporting people to feel empowered to emphasise the strengths in their skills and adapt their approaches to better connect with health. Including;
1. Created Stakeholder Profiles for use across social channels.
The profiles aimed to help raise the awareness on who the key players in the sector and where more information can be found about them. The profiles also showcased the diverse range of organisations and their work.
2. Delivered programme case studies to share with viewers.
The case studies delved into specific and more detailed examples of recognised good practice programmes. Shared at the end of each webinar the case studies allowed the sharing of new ideas and learning, aiming to inspire instructors to apply these insights into their own planning and action.
3. Curated wider content to support learning and application.
We highlighted existing tools and resources available from across the stakeholder organisations. This included practical planning tools, models for inclusive practice and links to further education and learning relating to physical activity and health.
4. Hosted a series of four live expert panel webinars.
We brought together experts from across the health and physical activity sectors, in a series of four, one-hour webinars delivered by Company Directors Craig Blain and Elaine McNish.
Titled, ‘Connecting Health and Group Exercise’, the webinar series aimed to help instructors understand the context of working with health partners as well as the practical considerations involved when supporting people to achieve long term behaviour change as part of a healthier lifestyle.
The series helped viewers to enhance their understanding of wider health systems, highlighted existing good practice within the sector, identified some of the essential skills for working with people new to activity and inspired people with tips to take action in creating connections with health organisations.
“There is so much great conversation going on here, thank you to all the speakers and Move Consulting. It is great to have all these resources & contacts to go to.”

WHAT THIS MEANT FOR OUR CLIENT
The series proved to be a great success for EMD UK, strengthening relationships with key industry stakeholders and engaging more group exercise instructors with EMD UK services. The series continues to be a success, with nearly 600 views across the on-demand webinars on the EMD UK YouTube channel.
“We were thrilled to work with Move Consulting on this webinar series. As experts in behaviour change and physical activity, we leant on their knowledge and expertise to source the right people for our instructors. And they did not disappoint.
Through careful curation of content and themes, over 760 instructors signed up across the series to learn more about how instructors and health systems can work together towards a healthier nation through group exercise.
We look forward to working together with Move Consulting in the future to provide more skills and tools to group exercise instructors to ensure they can be the best they can be.”
