Move Consulting Director Elaine McNish led the development of the Swim England Water Wellbeing Model that took a whole-pool approach to supporting people with health conditions to get swimming..
OUR APPROACH
The Move Consulting approach involved using insight to understand the needs of people with health conditions and the barriers to them accessing swimming pools. An environment assessment tool was devised to ensure leisure centres were inclusive, training was developed for frontline staff to understand the needs of people with health conditions, and a qualification for exercise referral instructors put in place to enable them to deliver classes in the water.
A marketing toolkit was also created to help leisure centres target clients, and a partnership developed with Versus Arthritis to enable a peer support element so people with arthritis could be supported to join classes, thereby engaging more people.
