Move Consulting was commissioned to identify a ‘proof of concept’ for key behaviours, tools and resources to support a model for effective practice to deliver strength messaging, guidance and support for patients.
We undertook an analysis of physiotherapy staff behaviours relating to providing strength messaging, guidance and advice, understanding the capabilities, opportunities and motivations that influence behaviours. The aim of the analysis was to determine the behaviours that physiotherapy staff could, or already, exhibit to support patients to engage in strengthening activities that could complement their treatment, general health and wellbeing.
We used a number of methods to understand current practice, including working with a group of physiotherapy staff, posing questions in an online forum, and surveys. Once identified, we sought to prioritise the behaviours, enablers and solutions to help enhance the practice of physiotherapy staff. A series of recommendations were developed that included training, tools and policies.
“We were delighted to be able to work with Move Consulting on our Strength Messaging Project. Working to very tight timescales, Craig and Elaine started by asking all the questions to take our valuable insight to the next phase. Their expert knowledge of applying behaviour change concepts to real-life experience, and their enthusiastic approach, helped to engage our members in shaping recommendations to develop an intervention. The rigorous methods they took and in-depth study into behaviours was fascinating, they taught us so much! They have provided us with an excellent foundation on which to develop our Strength Messaging Project further. We would thoroughly recommend working with them.”
